30 August | Road show event: Enhancing energy efficiency at Hanwei Park
Where: Hanwei International Plaza, Beijing (by invitation) & online
The second stop of our series of "Energy Efficiency in Industrial Park" dissemination events will spotlight Hanwei International Plaza Park in Beijing’s Fengtai Hi-Tech Zone. This commercial park, featuring 25 buildings, is set to benefit from a focused discussion on integrated energy efficiency solutions and the improvement of energy efficiency in buildings. The event will showcase successful solutions and pilot measures in buildings from Jintan Economic Development Zone, the pilot industrial park of the Sino-German Demonstration Project on energy efficiency in city quarters, and share insights from German companies. Participants will engage in discussions specifically tailored to the needs of Hanwei Park and the Fengtai district, aiming to amplify the impact of the demonstration project and advance energy efficiency improvements across the park. To join the event or for more information on the demonstration project, please contact Ms. Liu Wenjin (wenjin.liu@giz.de).
05 September | Kick-off workshop of Sino-German demonstration measure on energy efficiency in cement industry
Where: Hybrid (On-site in Beijing and online)
Following the signing of a Letter of Intent between GIZ and the National Energy Conservation Centre (NECC) on the Implementation of Sino-German Demonstration Measures on Energy Efficiency in Key Industries, in the presence of German Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck (BMWK) and NDRC Director Zheng Shanjie, the demonstration measure in the cement industry is set to officially launch in early September. The cement industry, a major consumer of energy and contributor to carbon emissions, generates approximately 3 billion tonnes of CO2 annually, accounting for about 7% of global CO2 emissions. China and Germany face similar challenges in enhancing energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions within the cement industry, including the high costs associated with CCUS (carbon capture, utilisation, and storage), green electricity, and the use of alternative fuels and raw materials.
This kickoff event will outline the demonstration project’s objectives and approach as well as the key challenges and solutions. Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in a survey to express their interests and requirements, fostering a collaborative approach towards sustainable development in the cement industry. For more information on the project and the kickoff event, please contact Mr. Hu Ning (ning.hu(at)giz.de).
08 - 13 September | Enhancing exchanges between gird operators in China and Germany - Netze BW visits China’s State Grid & Southern Grid
Where: Beijing, Wuhan and Guangzhou
As part of the ongoing think tank cooperation, the Sino-German Energy Partnership continues to foster robust exchanges between grid operators in China and Germany. With the gradual phase-out of coal and the increasing integration of renewable energy, grid operators in both countries face similar challenges in enhancing grid flexibility and security. Followed by extensive exchanges through workshops and delegation visits in recent years, this year, a delegation from Netze BW, the largest utility company in Baden-Württemberg, will visit China to engage with State Grid and China Southern Power Grid—two of China’s major power grid companies overseeing electricity transmission and distribution across vast regions of the country.
The visit will focus on critical areas such as the market development of distribution grids, advancements in energy storage, Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology, and digitalisation of power grids. Additionally, the delegation will explore China's EV charging infrastructure and experience EV driving firsthand. These discussions and site visits are expected to deepen the collaboration and knowledge exchange between German and Chinese grid operators, paving the way for innovative solutions in the energy transition.
