Sino-German Workshop on flexibilisation of the energy system through controllable heat supply

On 30 May 2024, the Sino-German Workshop on flexibilisation of the energy system through controllable heat supply took place in Handan City, Hebei Province. The event built the platform for experts and companies from the heating industry in China and Germany to share strategies for heating transition and discuss the important role the heating sector will play in providing flexibility in the energy system. Highlighted at the event were two initiatives: Germany's Smart Heat Metering and Heat Network 4.0 program and China's ongoing heat metering reform. These efforts aim to enhance sectoral coupling and bolster low-carbon development, benefiting not only the heating sector but the entire energy system. GIZ and the China Clean Heating Industry Committee (CHIC) jointly organized the event in the framework of the Sino-German Energy Partnership. With both China and Germany sharing many opportunities and challenges regarding the heating transition, the Energy Partnership will further support exchanges and workshops in the field of sustainable heating.
